EqualiSM True Story II: Sisters Nino and Natia Guseinovas – high-schoolers, the young sport influencers

Two sisters Nino (18 years old) and Natia (17 years old) Guseinovas, highschoolers, coming from a small village, who in their very young age have already been civil activists for 3 years, are also working on the 17 goals of sustainable development. Apart from being socially active and with the highest grades in all school subjects, both sisters together have organized the first female football league in their local municipality. They are leaders of the Environmental and Civic Responsibility Club. They also act as volunteers in different kind of activities – sports, education, nature and social environment. In the local community of Nino and Natia girls are always in the background with a strong male domination. Quite often female are victims of violence and oppression there and regarding so called “male dominant sports” like football one of the statements is that “Football is not a girl’s business”. Natia was one of those girls who wanted to play soccer in the 5th grade, but could not because only boys played soccer and boys did not want to play soccer with girls. When Natia became a 10th grader (being only in the age of 15), she already felt the power to confront society. Both sisters obtained a funding of only 150 euros and contacted the local branch of the Football Federation and other organizations. They liked the sisters’ idea and helped them. This is how the first female football league in the history of just a small municipality was held. “We showed the whole community that girls can play football too, we created 8 girls’ football teams and handed over sports equipment and uniforms” said Natia Guseinova. These two young female influencers are worthy to be mentioned within such True Stories like these ones of the EqualiSM project, because these are girls the society wants to see the next generation and our young people, who are our future. Nino and Natia are role models for their peers, and even if their peers cannot overtake all fields these two amazing sisters are active in, they can strive to become the best they can be themselves inspired by Nino and Natia Guseinovas.
